Update #1 3/28/13 – Success! App was reviewed by an expedited process and approved. Please update and enjoy Word SLapPs Vocabulary. Thank you for your understanding and support. ~Wallace
3/28/13 – Fixed version of Word SLapPs has been submitted to Apple and we expect the review to take several days. Thanks for being patient! ~Wallace
3/25/13 -Today Word SLapPs Vocabulary was updated in the App Store. Unfortunately, there are some serious problems with it and we recommend that it not be updated. We are working on a fix right now and we hope to have a new version of the app as soon as possible. The current version is unaffected and works fine. When the new (corrected) update is available in the App Store, previously affected updates and people who bought Word SLapPs during this time will then have working copies of the app.
A few words about how long it will take. Once we get the new update corrected and tested, we will submit it the the App Store. Once this happens, it will be placed in a queue and will be checked by Apple. This check usually takes between 7-10 days. So, realistically, the fix for Word SLapPs could take almost two weeks.
While we at Zorten Software take care to troubleshoot every app that we make and update, sometimes we make mistakes and something slips. This is unacceptable and we ask for your patience and understanding while we get this resolved.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Wallace Kineyko

I just got the app, and I tried to make a new category and input pics, but it wouldn’t save! What did I do wrong??

Most likely you have to press the “Done” button instead of just pressing “Back”
Also, be sure you save the Category before you create all of your images.
Hope this helps!

How many categories can you make. I have the 2preloads plus 3 more but can’t add more.

That’s right. Word SLapPs comes with Color and Animal categories along with an additional three that you can create yourself.

Right now there are only three user categories, but we plan on adding more in future updates.

Great app!!!!! I am a speech therapist too. Is there a way to add text to the top of the page like you have on your example such as “Find Blue”
I would also like to see more categories that we can add. I will use this all the time!
How do I put a picture into the “category box” on the categories page where you have the animals and colors?
Thank you so much ;-)

More categories are on the way in the next update, we’re happy to report. For the text, right now, the only way to do this is to add it when naming the image. We are also looking into making the images appear as thumbnails in the category buttons.

Love the update! So many possibilities. I have a suggestion; could you add something to your app/ website so that we could share categories we make? If I make a category for, say transportation, I could share it with you to share with others and so on so that we could not “reinvent the wheel category” and share the creative work load. I would appreciate that.

Great idea! Please look under the Word SLapPs heading to go to here. This is now the Image collection Archive. You will be able to download images to use in Word SLapPs. Hope this helps!

I love your app and so do the kids I work with. There are only a couple of things I would like to see. 1. Is there a way you could update to make a 6 picture choice an option instead of just 3 max? 2. Could there be a feature to turn on text since you have to enter it anyway when you create your category? Thank you so much for developing this app! Have you considered the Android market as well? I know this app would be a big hit there too.

Thanks for the suggestion. We are looking into adding more images in our next update and will see if it will be possible to add six pictures to it. You can display the text from the settings page and selecting “Sounds Off”

How do you upload the images and save them into categories?
#19 by SLPapps on March 31, 2011 - 6:54 am
Quote
Uploading images can be done in many ways, the easiest is to have you iPad sync to your computer to add your images. You can also copy images from websites by touching and holding your finger to it to copy the image. To save them you can watch a demonstration of adding images and making categories here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtube_gdata_player&v=19ag9oHgu1g

Love the app! I got the lite and then bought the full version. My question…. is there any way to transfer the category I already made in the lite to the full version so I don’t have to start from scratch?
Also, I would love to be able to adjust the picture size for larger pictures. Do you see that as a future update?
#21 by SLPapps on April 4, 2011 - 7:24 pm
Quote
Right now you can’t transfer categories or folders between the apps but we are hearing this more and more. We’ll be trying to find a way to make it happen in the next app update or certainly the one after that. We hope to also have the categories and folders transferable between users as well. The size of the images are also being looked at. All suggestions are welcomed!

I just bought this app today. I must admit that I am technologically challenged, so on that note how do I import pictures into a category? I looked for a help cue but didn’t see anything that explained it.
Thank you

There are many good features in this app. I agree with the earlier requests shown in the post, and am excited to see new features. I am a Vision Specialist and I often work with SLP’s and SpEd teachers to design or identify activities to address student goals. We would love to see a basic data collection feature. Even if we need to reset the score at the start of a session and track scores via paper for multiple students. It would be helpful to know at the end of a session how many items were identified correctly and maybe even have a list of the ones that were missed. Maybe a visual flag could appear next to the thumb nail of the ones missed. Also within the color game. Would it be possible to cause the correct answer to animate, and stay present on the screen for a moment, while the incorrect answer simply fades away. We would like the students to see the correct answer longer, with emphasis. Perhaps even with the option for the name of the color to be repeated right before the next question is given.
Thanks again for a very useful app, and the opportunity to give input.

Like the app for customizing materials. It would be nice to be able to have the audio presented only once, rather than be in auto-repeat mode, so kids have more time to respond.

Thanks

Word SLapPs Vocabulary will only let you use the levels where there images for them. For instance, if you make a category with three images, you will only be able to use up to level 3, four images up to level 4, etc…

Slightly disappointed… I didn’t like the realistic animal images for my 15 month old so I purchased the farm and vehicle upgrades thinking they were for the actual images, not just background visuals. I have no interest in these themes if they don’t provide images for the actual program, can I somehow uninstall/return them?
#35 by SLPapps on December 26, 2011 - 10:05 am

You can navigate to the Settings page and Choose Themes/Visuals and choosing the Basic theme. This will return you to the default theme and it will, in effect, uninstall them.

I really like the app. I prepared categories and pictures and sound on my iPad. Then I realized that there seems no way to get this work transferred to my second iPad used by my son.
Is there a way to transfer entered data from on iPad to another?

I think this app has a lot of potential – but there is one significant problem…
Once the student selects the correct answer, it disappears! Then we are left with the incorrect responses showing. :-( The incorrect answers should fade away leaving the target word so it can be talked about! I love the format, as it follows the DT format so many of my kids need – if you could just fix that one piece it would be perfect!!!

I agree with comment 39 regarding leaving us with the incorrect answers instead of making the right one bold but a very good app. Highly recommended.
Please let me know if there will be more thems/ background visuals besides the three ones: basic, animal, transport?
Thanks

I consider the ZORTEN Words and Colors Apps to be wonderful, customizable, memorable iPad Apps for intermediate level lesson plans for children in special education who are mentally around age 3. I am most comfortable with these 2 Apps in particular, as reinforcers for lessons involving hands-on manipulatives (playing with toys, arts&crafts) to teach categorization of like items. I am impressed with the “Settings” module where you can add/edit content, and tailor prompts/number of turns for a truly individualized experience! I like the speaker’s slow rate of speech, and the calming light blue background. I recommend Zorten Software, especially these 2 Apps and the Making Sequences one as well! Keep up the great work and thank you!

The issue is caused by the mute/orientation switch turned on. This is the small switch next to the volume buttons on the side of the iPad. You just have to turn the switch off and it will work. The next update is in review right now and will correct this problem as well as adding a web search to the app.
